My son claims that Egyptian History doesn’t give an account of the Exodus, the plagues, Jewish slavery, Moses, etc. Does extra biblical information exist that backs up the Book of Exodus? Thank you for any light that you can shed on this matter.
Great question. As the editor, I just posed your question and a similar question along the same lines to some of my resources. Hopefully, we’ll get some answers fairly soon. Sometimes the best answer we can give is a plain “I don’t know”. Just some encouragement in the interim. God and His Word have always proven faithful to me and when seemingly difficult questions arise that might shake others, I rest upon the Rock, Luke 6:48 (NASB), “He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.” There is also a passage that addresses a difficult time in Abraham’s life that might cause others to waver when he was told about the seemingly impossible promise made to him about a son to be born to Sarah in their later years in life, Romans 4:19-21 (NASB), “Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah’s womb; yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.” Although this is a tough point in your son’s life (Josh McDowell, author of “Evidence that Demands a Verdict” had a tough point in his life), prayerfully, he will become a stronger advocate for God’s truth as a result of this stressful time. Remember to build your house on the Rock, Matthew 7:24 (NASB), “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. “
Alice, good question. A good friend of mine spent a lot of time researching Tongues and came up with some good insight into what the filling of the Holy Spirit means to a saved believer (born-again, regenerate, Christ-follower, etc.). Here is the link, http://www.bibleanswerstoquestions.com/category/biblical-doctrinal-concerns/tongues/ . I will research your question and prepare an answer weighted with scripture, prayerfully handled in a balanced, contextual manner and will get back to you. It may be awhile since I spend a lot of time praying and meditating on God’s word before presenting application and or interpretation. As we both agree, the Holy Spirit in alignment with the Word will give us the understanding that God wants us to have, if we will yield to His authority.
Is there historical evidence that the Hebrews were slaves in Egypt, and after leaving wandered in the wilderness for 40 years?
